The Power Couple’s Week 9 Picks

All season long, the Power Couple will predict each week of the NFL season. Picks will be made against the spread, using the same lines posted over at ESPN’s Pigskin Pick’em game.

Last Week

Max: 7-6

Kelly: 5-8

Season

Max: 53-67

Kelly: 49-71

Thursday Night Football

Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Bucs +3.5)

Max- Falcons: Atlanta got an impressive win last weekend against Green Bay and I see no reason they can’t keep it going and beat up on a bad Bucs defense.

Kelly – Falcons: Julio Jones had a quiet game last week. That means Julio Jones is due to go off this week. Sorry Bucs fans, that doesn’t bode well for your shaky-at-best defense.

Sunday 1:00 p.m. ET Games

Dallas Cowboys vs. Cleveland Browns (Browns +7.5)

Max – Cowboys: Ezekiel Elliott is going to run all over the Browns right? Right.

Kelly – Cowboys: Dallas has been surprisingly good, and now Dez Bryant is back for his second game. Between him and Ezekiel Elliott, I have no idea how the Browns can cover them.

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings (Vikings -6.5)

Max- Lions: I’m way past worried about the Minnesota offense. They can’t run the ball consistently and they can’t protect Sam Bradford at all. No way do they score enough to win by a touchdown.

Kelly- Vikings: I’m not giving up on Minnesota just yet, and especially not to one of the most unpredictable teams in the league. Two weeks ago people were ready to anoint Matt Stafford the MVP, last week the pitchforks were out. I’m not getting on board with that team.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Chiefs -8.5)

Max- Chiefs: Even without Alex Smith and maybe Spencer Ware, the Chiefs will cover here. I do not trust Blake Bortles on the road.

Kelly- Chiefs: Max said it best – I have 0 faith in Blake Bortles unless the entire game is the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for him, there are three others to get through and Kansas City is solid enough on defense to hold them in check.

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins (Dolphins -3.5)

Max- Dolphins: I know they won last week, but I did not like how much the Jets struggled with Cleveland. I think the Dolphins, coming off a bye, do enough to keep this close and maybe even win.

Kelly- Jets: Do I ever pick against the Jets? Answer: No* (*unless they play the Patriots)

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants (Giants -2.5)

Max- Eagles: This feels like exactly the kind of game the Giants should win. Which means Eli Manning will definitely find a way to blow it.

Kelly- Giants: The Eagles and their rookie QB have fallen back to earth. This team can’t entirely figure out their running back trio and can’t seem to get into a consistent rhythm on offense. The Giants are fresh off a bye and I can see them being extremely ready for this matchup.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens (Ravens -0.5)

Max- Steelers: I think the Steelers Lund the Ravens relentlessly with Le’Veon Bell and he does enough to win the game.

Kelly- Steelers: Will Big Ben play, that is the question. Still even without him, the Steelers have enough firepower to beat a Ravens team, which started the season 3-0 and has proceeded to lose to Oakland, Washington, the Giants and the Jets…

4:00 p.m. ET Games

Carolina Panthers vs. Los Angeles Rams (Rams +3.5)

Max- Rams: Carolina beat up on a Cardinals team that was already in a tailspin last week. I think they’re underestimating the Rams and take it a little too easy this Sunday.

Kelly- Panthers: Carolina put it together, at least for a little last week, showing that a tough defensive performance and a solid run game can make them an effective team. I hate the Los Angeles offense – sorry Todd, and I just can’t trust them to score enough, even with Carolina coming West.

New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers (49ers +3.5)

Max- Saints: The equation here is simple. The New Orleans offense is much, much better than the 49ers’ defense.

Kelly- Saints: The 49ers are really, really bad. New Orleans has a really good offense. I’ll bet on Drew Brees.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Green Bay Packers (Packers -6.5)

Max- Packers: I don’t think the Colts have any chance of stopping the Packers’ offense, no matter who’s playing running back.

Kelly- Packers: The Falcons gave everything they had last week against Green Bay and snuck out of the game with a one-point victory. The Colts should be an easier task for Green Bay, even though they might be calling me to play running back at this point…

Tennessee Titans vs. San Diego Chargers (Chargers -5.5)

Max- Chargers : When in doubt, go with the team with the better QB. I think Philip Rivers does enough to win this game.

Kelly- Chargers: All of a sudden the AFC West came charging out as one of the most, if not the most, fun division to watch (see below). Give me Philip Rivers over the Titans.

Sunday Night Football

Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders (Raiders +0.5)

Max- Broncos: This Raiders team is undeniably exciting p, but still a bit unproven. I’m going to trust the defending champs and the great Broncos defense.

Kelly- Raiders: Denver has a great defense, but Oakland might have the league’s best offense. I didn’t believe in Oakland for the longest time, but they’ve slowly converted me. This is their big chance to really prove to everyone that they are one of the top teams in the AFC.

Monday Night Football

Buffalo Bills vs. Seattle Seahawks (Seahawks -7.5)

Max- Bills: I still think the Seahawks win, but I see this game being very close as both offense struggle to score points in another bad Monday night game.

Kelly- Seahawks: The Bills are so inconsistent and I hate picking against the Seahawks at home, so Seattle it is.

Bye week: Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Washington Redskins
