All season long, the Power Couple will predict each week of the NFL season. Picks will be made against the spread, using the same lines posted over at ESPN’s Pigskin Pick’em game.
Thursday Night Football
Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers (Packers -9.5)
Max- Packers: I’m not going against Aaron Rodgers at home in a prime time game.
Kelly – Packers: I feel like this is one of those games that the Packers rebound in. I think at least.
Sunday 9:00 a.m. ET Games
New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Rams (Rams +2.5)
Max – Giants: Case Keenum had the best game of his career last week and the Rams still lost. Their defense is good, but I don’t believe it will be able to shut down Odell Beckham enough to compensate for their poor offense.
Kelly – Rams: The Giants going to London makes me nervous especially since it took a little Odell Beckham magic to pull that game out last week. I think the Rams defense gets to Eli enough to rattle him and I think that even though it’s Case Keenum, the Giants have some big holes on defense that they can exploit.
Sunday 1:00 p.m. ET Games
Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins (Dolphins +2.5)
Max- Bills: Even without Shady McCoy I think the Bills have enough to win this game. Their defense has started to resemble a Rex Ryan team and their offensive line has been dominating. No way the Dolphins pull off back-to-back upsets.
Kelly- Bills: I’m really sad McCoy is out, but I still think that last week was just a fluke. The Bills will need to get some more production out of Tyrod Taylor to pull this out.
Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals (Bengals -9.5)
Max- Bengals: Cincinnati badly needs an offensive breakout game. I think playing the Browns is the perfect opportunity for one.
Kelly- Browns: The Browns keep this close. I’m not giving the Bengals 10 points over anyone right now.
Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions (Lions -1.5)
Max- Lions: I’m largely picking home field advantage here. I think Kirk Cousins will make one mistake too many and his defense won’t be able to back him up enough times for Washington to win.
Kelly- Redskins: I keep picking against Kirk Cousins and he keeps proving me wrong. I think Washington can sneak away with a win.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans (Titans -2.5)
Max- Titans: The Titans might be good. Their run game, led by a resurgent Demarco Murray, is legit and Marcus Mariota has looked great the past three weeks. I expect them to beat up on a bad, bad Colts team.
Kelly- Titans: I think Max and I might be listening to a little too much Bill Simmons, but I agree I’m liking the Titans here, just because the Colts are bad.
New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Chiefs -6.5)
Max- Chiefs: The spread is really high, but I think the Chiefs will grind the game down and pound the poor Saints defense with their run game. Their defense only needs two or three extra stops to win. Andy Reid is capable of that.
Kelly- Chiefs: I’m thinking that Kansas City can grind this one out with their two running backs and Drew Brees won’t have enough time to work his magic.
Oakland Raiders vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (Jaguars -0.5)
Max- Raiders: I’m not really sure why the Jaguars are favored in this game. The Raiders are a better team.
Kelly- Raiders: I’m over the Jaguars. I’m tired of hearing about them just because they play in a good division. They’re not that good.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Eagles +2.5)
Max- Vikings: Carson Wentz finally started to look like a rookie QB last week. I think the Vikings defense, with a week off, will give him all kinds of problems on Sunday.
Kelly- Vikings: Somehow the Vikings keep winning, and Sam Bradford gets to get his revenge game against his old team.
Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets (Jets -0.5)
Max- Ravens: The answer to “what is wrong with the Jets?” is not “Geno Smith wasn’t playing.
Kelly- Jets: I hate this team for making me pick them again. I hate them. I hate them. But the Ravens are banged up too. And for some reason, I’m nice and biased.
4:00 p.m. ET Games
San Diego Chargers vs. Atlanta Falcons (Falcons -6.5)
Max- Falcons: The Falcons offense had a huge third quarter against a very good Seahawks defense. They should have no problem with the Chargers.
Kelly- Falcons: I really think Matt Ryan can have fun against this defense, especially at home.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. San Francisco 49ers (49ers +1.5)
Max- Buccaneers: The 49ers have virtually no defense. Look for a big offensive day from Jameis Winston.
Kelly- Buccaneers: Taking the Bucs scares the heck out of me, but the 49ers have shown me absolutely nothing. So I think I have to go with Tampa Bay.
New England Patriots vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (Steelers +7.5)
Max- Patriots: Le’veon Bell and Antonio Brown are enough to make any quarterback look good, but I’m not picking against Bill Belichick going up against a backup QB.
Kelly- Patriots: I had this whole thing about how Le’veon Bell could be the lead guy, and how Brown could help Landry Jones look good even against the Patriots and then I remembered they’re playing the Patriots…
Sunday Night Football
Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals (Cardinals -1.5)
Max- Seahawks: The Cardinals got to beat up on a struggling Jets defense last week, but Seattle poses a different test. Seattle’s offense has started to find a rhythm and their defense looked formidable against Atlanta, outside of that third quarter.
Kelly- Cardinals: I’m torn. The NFC West always plays each other extremely close and I think that the Cardinals will build off the Jets win and play this close as well. If Carson Palmer can finally get it going – the Cardinals have enough weapons to cause problems for even the Seahawks.
Monday Night Football
Houston Texans vs. Denver Broncos (Broncos -7.5)
Max- Broncos: The Broncos defense has said it wants to kill Brock Osweiler. Osweiler struggled against a terrible Colts defense. I do not trust Osweiler against Von Miller and Co.
Kelly- Broncos: In the Brock returns game, I think his old team comes out victorious, especially since they’ve been sitting on that terrible San Diego loss for quite some time.
Bye week: Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys
